Susan Dey’s Early Life

Susan Dey was born On December 10, 1952, to Ruth Pyle who is a nurse and Robert Smith Dey, an editor for the Standard-Star newspaper in New Rochelle, New York, in Pekin, Illinois, United States of America. Her mother, Ruth Dey passed away in 1960 when she was eight years old.

She attended Columbus Elementary School in Thornwood, New York, for her education. She eventually moved to Mount Kisco, New York, and enrolled at Fox Lane High School, from where she received her diploma in 1970.

Susan originally began her career as a model. She achieved success in modelling after having her photo appear on the cover of a pamphlet called “Getting to Know Yourself” by Pursettes Tampons that explains the basics of menstruation for young girls.

When Susan was cast as Laurie Partridge in the 1970 television sitcom, The Partridge Family, she was a teenager with no prior acting experience. Susan Dey played one of the five Partridge kids, each of whom had a unique skill set that included singing, playing percussion, the piano, and the Hammond organ, for all 96 episodes spread across all four seasons.

In 1972, Susan played Elly Brewster for her film debut in Skyjacked. She voiced Laurie Partridge in eight episodes of the animation TV series Goober and the Ghost Chasers in 1973. She played Charlotte Ross in a 1976 Western film The Captive: Longest Drive 2. She portrayed the lead character in the comedy-drama film Echo Park in 1986. Dey hosted an episode of Saturday Night Live in 1992. She played the role of Wallis “Wally” Porter in the TV series Love & War from 1992 to 1993. The actress is also an author. Her book, Susan Dey’s Secrets on Boys, Beauty and Popularity, was published in 1972.

She won a Golden Globe Award as Actress in a Leading Role – Drama Series for the role in 1988. She was also nominated in each of the following four years.

Susan was on the board of the UCLA Medical Center’s Rape Treatment Centre. She and her former L.A. Law co-star Corbin Bernsen co-narrated a documentary about campus rape. She stopped acting in 2004 after finishing her role as Dr. Breene in the television series Third Watch.

Susan Dey’s Personal Life

Since 1988, Susan has been happily married to her second husband, television producer Bernard Sofronski. From 1976 until 1981, she was initially married to Leonard “Lenny” Hirshan. Susan and Lenny have a daughter together, Sarah who was born in 1978. Lenny passed away in 2014 at the age of 86 from skin cancer.

Where Is Susan Dey Now?

Since 2004, Susan Dey has been living a low-profile existence and has retired from acting. Susan does not, however, go to The Partridge Family reunions. Dey was the only cast member that missed the massive 50th Anniversary special that aired in 2020 because she hasn’t participated in any over the years.

Susan did, however, attend the virtual reunion of L.A. Law. The “L.A. Law” cast virtually reunited in 2020 as part of the “Stars in the House” series, a fundraiser for The Actors Fund.
