Hallmark’s The Way Home introduced a slew of new characters in Season 2, including Casey Goodwin. Not much is known about Port Haven’s newest resident, which adds another level of mystery to the hit time-travel drama. So, who is Casey Goodwin on The Way Home? Keep reading to find out.

The Way Home is Hallmark’s time-travel drama that centers on Kat (Chyler Leigh) and Alice (Sadie Laflamme-Snow), a mother and daughter who move back to Kat’s small hometown of Port Haven, Canada, at a crossroads in their lives. Once there, they reconnect with Kat’s estranged mother Del (Andie McDowell) and learn that they have the ability to time travel by way of a mysterious pond on their family’s property. In the Season 1 finale, they realize that Kat’s younger brother Jacob, who went missing years prior in 1999, fell into the pond and ended up stuck in the 1800s. The series first premiered in January 2023 and became one of cable’s five most-watched original entertainment series of that year.

The show’s sophomore season, which kicked off on Jan. 21, 2024, introduced viewers to several new characters, both in the present day and in 1814. One of those characters is Casey Goodwin, a mysterious teenager who’s origins may have just been revealed in the Season 2 finale. Read on for everything there is to know about Casey Goodwin.

Who is Casey Goodwin on The Way Home?

Casey GoodwinWho is Casey Goodwin on The Way Home? Casey Goodwin (played by Vaughan Murrae) is the grandchild of Evelyn Goodwin and a descendant of Cyrus Goodwin, one of the original founders of Port Haven. Casey (who goes by the pronouns they/them) moves to Port Haven at the start of the summer and begins interning for Kat at The Herald, Port Haven’s local newspaper.

Casey is supposedly in town with their family to sort through the Goodwin estate following Evelyn’s death, however, their parents have never been seen on-screen nor have their names been revealed. Throughout the season, Casey also seems desperate to get to know Alice and Kat.

Plenty of theories have been swirling about the new character, and the Season 2 finale may have just proved that Casey is not who they say they are. To Kat’s dismay, Del agreed to sell the Landry family land to the Goodwins. She had already signed the deal and made it official, but was beginning to have some doubts. That’s when Casey showed up and revealed that their dad changed his mind, agreeing to rip up the deal. As if Casey magically swooping in to save the Landry farm wasn’t suspicious enough, Alice realizes that the ring Casey is wearing around their neck looks familiar.

The episode ends with Alice zooming in on photos of Casey while holding up Kat’s nearly identical engagement ring, which Alice was gifted during the Season 1 premiere. Although fans will have to wait until Season 3 to learn exactly who Casey is, we suspect that this cliffhanger indicates that they are a Landry. Since their parents are never around and they wear Kat’s old ring, it’s very possible that Casey is either Alice’s child from the future or perhaps a second child of Kat’s.

Several small details and plot points from Season 2 pointed to Casey being a time traveler, which eagle-eyed fans picked up on. Upon arriving at The Herald, Casey told Kat: “It happens, families drift apart. But maybe working here is my chance to get to know my family in a new way.” While Kat assumed Casey meant the Goodwins, they could have been talking about her, Alice and Del. Several fans also pointed out in a Reddit thread that the name “Cassidy Landry,” was written in the Landry family almanac below Del’s name — perhaps Casey is a nickname for Cassidy.

Then again, Casey was able to terminate Del’s deal and donate money from the Goodwin estate on Founder’s Day, so they could have some ties to the Goodwin family. Since their father’s identity was never revealed, though, he could be anyone.

Thankfully, The Way Home has been renewed for Season 3, so fans will get all their burning questions about Casey Goodwin answered eventually.

Season 2 of The Way Home can be streamed on Peacock.
