'Boy Meets World' actor Ben Savage trying to move from sitcom to Congress

LOS ANGELES (TND) A former child star wants to leave "La La Land" to work in the nation's capital. Actor Ben Savage has made it official he's running for Congress. Savage is making his run in southern Californias 30th Congressional district.

Actor Ben Savage has made it official he's running for Congress.

I firmly believe in standing up for what is right, ensuring equality and expanding opportunities for all,” he announced in an Instagram post on Monday.

Savage is making his run in southern California’s 30th Congressional district.

The seat is held by fellow a Democrat, Rep. Adam Schiff, who will be running to replace retiring Sen. Dianne Feinstein in 2024.

Schiff served in the House since 2001. His website says the district stretches “from West Hollywood to Pasadena and from Echo Park to the Angeles National Forest.”

Savage, 42, is best known as “Cory Matthews” on “Boy Meets World.” He reprised the role in the spinoff “Girl Meets World,” and his older brother is Fred Savage, from “The Wonder Years.”

After acting, he interned in the U.S. Senate while earning a political science degree from Stanford.

He also lost in a bid for a seat on the West Hollywood City Council.

Savage registered with the Federal Election Commission in January.

According to Ballotpedia, he's is one of eight Democrats competing for the party’s nomination.

The other seven are Joshua Bocanegra, Mike Feuer, Laura Friedman, Maebe A. Girl, Nick Melvoin, Anthony Portantino, Jr., and Sepi Shyne.
